Clydesdale Bank grows appetite for food and drink sector with support for North East event

9th June 2015

Supporting food and drink businesses is on the menu at Clydesdale Bank, which is to co-host the North East Food Forum in Aberdeen this month.

The North East Food Forum, which aims to highlight local food and drink producers, will be held on June 30 at the Trinity Hall in Aberdeen. The event is being jointly organised by Clydesdale Bank and FoodFest15. The FoodFest15 initiative is a national and international campaign to celebrate and promote the natural larder of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire during the official Year of Food and Drink.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about local produce, where it comes from and how important it is to support local businesses. With 12 exhibitors taking part in the event, including Granite City Fish, JG Ross bakers, Spey Valley Brewery, Cocoa Ooze and Devenick Dairy there will also be samples available and high quality produce for purchase.

Clydesdale Bank is a strong supporter of Scotland’s food and drink sector, with the Bank recently renewing its strategic partnership with industry organisation Scotland Food & Drink. It also enjoys a similar partnership with Scottish Bakers.

Marketing Director of VisitAberdeen Peter Medley, who is leading the FoodFest15 project on behalf of the campaign partnership said: “Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink is an excellent opportunity for local businesses to spotlight, promote and celebrate the quality and quantity of our natural larder and enhance our reputation as a foodie destination of first choice.

“The North East Forum will help highlight the story behind our food and the people who produce it, as consumers prefer to buy food with an explicit local provenance.”

Robin Hewitt, Senior Manager at Clydesdale Bank’s Aberdeen Business and Private Banking Centre, said: “We welcome the opportunity to co-host this year’s North East Food Forum, especially with 2015 designated the Year of Food and Drink in Scotland.

"Working closely with industry organisations has strengthened our knowledge of the sector and helps us to provide unparalleled support to our food and drink customers. We understand the opportunities and challenges faced by the industry and we are perfectly placed to help businesses in the food and drink sector to realise their growth ambitions.

“Supporting the event also demonstrates our commitment to the Aberdeen City region."
