The cleaner and
stronger £5

Introducing Great Britain's first polymer banknote

Our latest banknote, a £5 polymer note, offers more enhanced security features, durability and cleanliness than the paper £5 note. Initially entering circulation in March 2015 as a limited edition note, our polymer banknote was the first of its kind in Great Britain. The updated note is due to launch in September 2016 and will replace the paper £5 note.

Discover the inspiration behind the images on our new polymer £5 note - the Forth Bridge and the man whose company built the astonishing World Heritage site landmark, Sir William Arrol.
