Wee Gems celebrates 10 years in business with Armadale nursery

13 October 2015

Nursery chain Wee Gems has opened its fourth location in Armadale ten years after the company was founded.

The state of the art, purpose-built nursery can cater for up to 90 children up to the age of five.

Construction of the £700,000 facility started in 2014. The business received £140,000 funding from Clydesdale Bank in a deal delivered by Relationship Manager Graeme Muir.

Wee Gems currently has twelve full time and six part time employees but expects the total number of staff to rise to 35 as the nursery approaches capacity.

Mahyar Motazavi, Managing Director of Wee Gems, said: “Ten years ago when I wanted to open a nursery for my son I didn’t envisage the business developing into a multi-site operation.

“I’m not one to shy away from a challenge, so when opportunities for growth came along, I took them.

“I can’t think of a better way to mark ten years in business than looking to our future and continuing to expand the company.”

Stephen Buchan, Head of Clydesdale Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Edinburgh, said: “Clydesdale Bank is proud to support businesses targeting growth.

“Wee Gems is a long-standing customer with Clydesdale and it is encouraging to see them continue to develop and improve the business.”

Clydesdale Bank recently launched a series of lending initiatives for UK businesses, designed to encourage growth for new and existing customers. As well as capital-free periods for up to five years, the Bank has also introduced high percentage funding for businesses to purchase trading premises.

Clydesdale a Bank has strengthened its support for UK SMEs by becoming the first to partner with the British Business Bank under its ENABLE Guarantees scheme. Up to £125m of new lending by Clydesdale Bank will help more small businesses achieve their growth ambitions.
