Games firm on track to create 50 new jobs in Scotland with support from Clydesdale Bank

11 December 2015

A computer games firm best known for offering rail enthusiasts the opportunity to experience driving trains on some of the world’s most iconic routes is creating up to 50 new jobs in Stirling, thanks to Clydesdale Bank.

Dovetail Games, which specialises in simulation entertainment, is planning to create up to 50 new jobs after receiving a substantial funding package from Clydesdale Bank’s Edinburgh Business and Private Banking Centre. The new roles will be focused on creating content for Dovetail’s forthcoming flight simulation products along with expansion of the existing train simulation team. The deal, delivered by Clydesdale Bank Relationship Manager Pamela Ross, will support up to 50 new jobs at the firm’s Stirling base over the next 12 months.

Founded in 2009, Dovetail currently employs eleven people in Stirling and over 120 staff at its main office in Chatham, Kent. The company’s most famous game is Train Simulator, which allows players who are passionate about railways to experience driving a variety of trains, create new routes and enjoy the landscape fly by. However, more recently they have expanded their portfolio to include Dovetail Games Euro Fishing, which offers fishing fans of all levels an authentic and immersive fishing experience and have also published Microsoft’s Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition, on the digital gaming platform Steam.

The multi award-winning company recently entered the Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 league for the first time. The league table ranks Britain’s fastest growing private technology, media and telecoms companies and reflected Dovetail’s significant sales growth of 49% over the past three years.

Jon Rissik, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Dovetail Games, said: “With the funding we have received from Clydesdale Bank, we are looking to grow the business in a new direction and build a bigger team in Scotland. Virtual reality is without question the future of gaming and we are interested in exploring VR development more in the future. Clydesdale Bank is extremely supportive of our plans and recognises the exciting growth opportunity presented by new platforms such as virtual reality gaming.”

Stephen Buchan, Head of Clydesdale Bank’s Edinburgh Business and Private Banking Centre, said: “Dovetail Games is a well-managed and ambitious games firm which aspires to be the world’s number one simulation entertainment company. We look forward to working in partnership with the management team as they develop their innovative product range and continue to grow their creative development teams.

“Our specialist knowledge of and focus on different sectors helps to support the market giving businesses the speed and flexibility they require to achieve their growth ambitions.”
