Yorkshire Bank trio celebrate 100 years of service

14th February 2014

Three members of Yorkshire Bank’s private banking team in Nottingham are celebrating after collectively clocking up 100 years of service.

Relationship managers Jo Belton, Phil Trueman and Ian Whitfield, who are all based at Yorkshire Bank’s Nottingham and Derby Business and Private Banking Centre, have each worked for the Bank since leaving school as teenagers. This year, they celebrate an extraordinary 100 years of service between them.

The trio are also highly active in the local community, supporting a number of organisations and helping to fundraise for local charities.

Jo joined Yorkshire Bank in Sheffield as a junior in August 1980. She has been a relationship manager at the Nottingham and Derby Business and Private Banking Centre for the past 10 years. Jo’s community work includes volunteering as a trustee for Trentbridge Community Trust, which uses sport as a means of supporting disadvantaged young people, and she is on the development board of Nottingham Trent University. Two years ago, Jo also ran the London Marathon to raise funds for the local Maggie’s Centre, at the City Hospital, Nottingham.

Ian, who is originally from County Durham, began his career with Yorkshire Bank in Stockton-on-Tees in November 1975. He moved to the Midlands with his family 22 years ago and has been in his current private banking role for 12 years. Ian has worked closely with others in the Nottingham and Derby team to help raise funds for their local hospice charity partner, Treetops Hospice in Derby.

Phil – the ‘baby’ of the trio, with a mere 27 years of service – has always worked in and around Nottingham. He has been a relationship manager in the private banking team at the Nottingham and Derby Business and Private Banking Centre for 12 years. During his career, he has helped to raise tens of thousands of pounds for local charities. Last year, he was among five non-cyclists to complete a charity Coast 2 Coast bike ride in aid of Treetops Hospice. Together, the team – all from Yorkshire Bank’s Nottingham and Derby Business and Private Banking Centre – raised over £6,000. In 2011, he took part in a sponsored walk which raised £19,000 for the Bank’s Help the Hospices campaign, and he has also ran the London Marathon for the British Heart Foundation.

Jo, Ian and Phil’s work centenary is the latest landmark celebration for Yorkshire Bank’s Nottingham and Derby Business and Private Banking Centre. Last year the centre marked its re-location to Nottingham city centre with an official opening attended by Paul Shephard, Yorkshire Bank’s Director of Business and Private Banking, local business figures and staff. They were also joined by players from the Yorkshire Bank 40 winners, Notts County Cricket Club, who brought their silverware to show to guests.

Carl Dickinson, head of Yorkshire Bank’s Nottingham and Derby Business and Private Banking Centre, said: “I’d like to offer my warmest congratulations to Jo, Ian and Phil, on chalking up 100 years of service between them.

“Not only are they an inspiration to their colleagues, but their loyalty to Yorkshire Bank, and to the local community, says much about how dedicated our employees are to supporting the Bank’s heartlands and providing continuity of relationship to their private clients. I’m proud to be part of such a great team.”
