The Cheese Shop on the move with Yorkshire Bank

14th June 2013

One of Nottingham’s foodie paradises is switched-on with its card payments for UK events and shows thanks to Yorkshire Bank.

Brothers Rob and Webb Freckingham, owners of The Cheese Shop, have switched its credit and debit card machines to Yorkshire Bank when taking payment for its specialist cheeses from across Europe which are sold over the counter and at events and shows in the UK.

The specialist retailer received financial support from Yorkshire Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in the city last October when it moved into bigger premises in The Flying Horse Walk, St Peter’s Gate.

The Cheese Shop is renowned for using its wide range of produce to provide catering for restaurants and pubs across the East Midlands.

Rob, who established the family-run delicatessen with Webb nearly a decade ago, said Yorkshire Bank’s support since 2006 had been key to growing the business.

Rob said: “We wanted to expand into a larger shop and we received the necessary support from Yorkshire Bank to make the move a reality.

“Footfall has improved because we can sell a more extensive range of stock and we also have a café which has been a positive introduction.

“We believe we are bucking the trend because our combination of providing top-quality products with good, old-fashioned service is ensuring our reputation is growing.

“We have now installed Yorkshire Bank’s card terminals. When Webb went to the Artisan Cheese Fair at Melton Mowbray he was able to take one of the machines with him and take card transactions. This is a service people expect and we can now provide wherever we are.

“It is important we provide the highest standards of service in all aspects of our business and installing the flexible card terminals means it is good to have all our banking services with Yorkshire Bank.”

Kelly Rudkin, Payment Manager for Payment Solutions at Yorkshire Bank in Castle Meadow Road, Nottingham, said it was vital to understand each business before recommending the right service to meet its needs.

She said: “The Cheese Shop is a fantastic, growing business and the GPRS terminals are mobile rather than using a telephone line which are perfect for its array of services.

“We launched our Merchant Services proposition in January and we provide a range of terminal-based solutions to meet the varying needs of our customers depending on their requirements.

“Since then we have signed-up a number of customers to the service across the East Midlands with the peace of mind that experts are processing payments quickly and securely using the latest techology. We can also provide e-commerce and mail order/ telephone order services as required.

“Businesses don’t necessarily have to bank with us to take advantage of this service because we can offer it as a stand-alone product.”
