Pest control firm cleans up with Clydesdale Bank

2nd August 2013

A leading environmental services provider is expanding its premises and recruiting new staff after securing funding from Clydesdale Bank.

Graham Environmental Services, one of the largest independent pest control firms in Scotland, obtained a six figure funding package from Clydesdale Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Dundee.

The deal enabled the family-owned firm, which has about 5,000 regular customers across Scotland, to acquire its previously rented premises in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, and create new storage and office space. The company also purchased an area of land for the purposes of future expansion.

Founded as a one-man operation 20 years ago, Graham Environmental Services now operates a team of pest control technicians from 13 locations across the country. Among its clients are Army Scotland, The National Trust for Scotland, the Scottish Prison Service, and the University of Dundee.

In response to demand, the firm recently introduced a number of new services. Graham Fire and Water specialises in installing and maintaining fire safety equipment including extinguishers and blankets, while Graham Hygiene Services focuses on deep cleaning professional kitchens.

Together, the three divisions employ 48 staff, including four new jobs created by the deal with Clydesdale Bank. The firm has a turnover of just over £2million.

Ross Graham, Graham Environmental Services’ managing director said: “Switching to Clydesdale Bank has been a breath of fresh air – and that’s a serious compliment from an environmental services firm.

“While we were initially attracted by its flexible terms, we have been extremely impressed by its experienced staff and the personal touch they offer, both when visiting the premises and dealing with our telephone calls.

“With thousands of customers across Scotland, our focus is on providing those we already serve with additional services. By facilitating an expansion of our premises, and helping us to free up capital to recruit new staff, Clydesdale Bank is helping us to achieve our business goals.”

Richard Smith, head of Clydesdale Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Dundee, said: “Graham Environmental began as a one-man local business. Now it is a significant national venture, creating jobs all over Scotland and increasing its market share.

“We look forward to supporting the firm as it continues to expand.”
