Demolition firm expands with Yorkshire Bank

7th March 2012

A Cheshire firm that specialises in demolishing and recycling old buildings is looking to grow after securing a £1.2million finance package from Yorkshire Bank.

Cheshire Demolition and Excavation Contractors Ltd, based in Macclesfield, will use the funding fillip to expand its thriving skip hire operation.

This side of the business has contributed to an increase in the company’s turnover to £3.5million after winning contracts with several large construction companies to provide skips for the removal and recycling of waste building material.

The company, which was founded in 1986 and now has 40 employees, recently invested £180,000 in a new crushing machine and screener to further improve efficiency in its recycling of building waste.

Specialising in all aspects of demolition, excavation, salvage and reclamation, the firm recycles almost 95 per cent of material in demolished buildings. As well as its work with building contractors, the company has contracts with a number of local authorities to make dangerous and fire-damaged buildings safe.

Phil Swindells, a director of Cheshire Demolition and Excavation, said: “Our skip hire operations are driving the growth of our business and we required significant investment to service increased demand in this area. The funding we have secured from Yorkshire Bank enables us to concentrate on developing this side of the business further.”

Stephen Cox, business partner at Yorkshire Bank’s Manchester Financial Solutions Centre, which has provided the funding, said: “Cheshire Demolition and Excavation is a solid trading business that has continued to seek out quality growth opportunities despite a tough trading environment. By taking on the banking relationship and providing new funding we aim to help the company continue to be successful.”

Phil runs the business with his brother Stan and fellow director Neil Truman. As well as its demolition and excavation work, the family business owns a three-acre site of reclaimed building materials, including slate, stone, architectural antiques and traditional fireplaces, which it sells across the UK and overseas.
