Putting best feet forward for Help the Hospices

26/05/2011

A race against the clock to climb three mountains in three days in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours is the challenge awaiting Yorkshire Bank staff from Derby next month.

Dave Simpson, Nigel Wilson and Adam Kemp from Yorkshire Bank’s Financial Solutions Centre (FSC) in St Peter’s Street have been busy training for the Three Peaks Challenge to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, starting on Thursday, June 16.

The trio, along with colleagues from Yorkshire Bank in Nottingham and Leicester, are on course to raise £5,000 for Treetops Hospice in Derby, Beaumond House Community Hospice in Newark and The Nottinghamshire Hospice in Nottingham. The total amount will be matched by Yorkshire Bank for its nominated charity Help the Hospices.

Nigel said beating the time limit was not going to be easy but everyone was feeling positive.

“We have all been doing our own training schedules in the gym and I have been doing some walking and ran a 10km last month,” he said.

“Ben Nevis in Scotland is the first mountain we climb which is the highest of the Three Peaks so it is good to do that first.

“We will then be travelling by mini-bus during the night to the Lake District ready for our 4.30am start to go up and down Scafell Pike.

“We then head to Wales to Snowdon which we plan to walk to the summit and back in three-and-a-half hours to be within our 24 hour time limit.

“There is a certain amount of trepidation but we are all determined to raise money for Treetops Hospice as well as the nationwide Help the Hospices.”

Alex Ward, Corporate and Trusts Fundraiser at Treetops Hospice, added: “The money raised will help us to continue providing invaluable care for our patients and their families at a time when funds are very much needed.

“We are extremely grateful to Dave, Nigel and Adam for their fundraising efforts and I have every confidence they will complete the Three Peaks Challenge. We look forward to inviting them to the hospice so they can see the results of all their hard work first hand.”
