Clydesdale Bank auction to raise over £100,000 for charity

Clydesdale Bank aims to raise more than £100,000 for charity by auctioning some of its new banknotes on 22 September.

The notes to go under the hammer include complete uncut sheets of the new ‘World Heritage’ family of notes, the very first of the new notes off the press and a selection of rare and collectable notes from its archive.

The auction will be held in Glasgow, in the Bank’s Head Office branch, and will raise money for charities that will be chosen by Clydesdale Bank employees.  Over 50 different charities are likely to benefit.

The event will support the work already undertaken by the Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank Foundations over the last 12 months, which gave more than £555,000 to various causes."

“While Clydesdale Bank has provided strong support for a number of large charities, such as Help the Hospices, this event will ensure that a wide range of smaller charities will benefit, in what remains a difficult climate.”

The charities and groups that are chosen will be notified after the auction is held.

A second auction for historic banknotes will be held in London later in the year, which could raise an additional £30,000 for the Bank’s charity partner, Help the Hospices.

Clydesdale unveiled the new banknote designs in January and they will enter circulation after October 2009.
