Executive profile: Michael Webber
Head of Legal Services and Company Secretary
Michael joined the Group in January 2006 as Head of Legal Services and Company Secretary. He qualified as a barrister in 1977 and transferred within the legal profession to become a solicitor. He was admitted by the Law Society of England & Wales in August 1981. He practised law in private practice in Kent and was for some years a partner at the firm of Argles and Court in Maidstone.
In January 1993 he joined the staff of the Woolwich Building Society and rose to become the Chief Solicitor of the Woolwich after its conversion to a PLC. When the Woolwich was acquired by Barclays Bank Michael became the General Counsel for the retail area of the Bank, a position that he held until leaving to join the NAB Group in 2006.
Michael currently chairs the Legal Advisory Panel of the CML and is a member of the Rules Committee established under the Land Registration Act 2002. Outside of the law, he has a keen interest in housing issues and was Chairman of Russet Homes, in Kent, for 18 years until September 2008.
