Upload your documents

Make sure you have the correct type of file to upload – we accept the following formats:

Any MS Office or PDF file type

A photograph of your original document. Please ensure that all text is legible

A high quality scanned image of your original document

Proof of identification

Driving Licence

Step 1: Let’s check a few things

To use your driving licence, you’ll need to check a few things first:

  • Your driving licence was issued in the UK
  • Your licence is current and signed
  • You can provide images of both the front and back of the licence

Step 2: Take your picture

It’s important to make sure your photo is taken so that all the information is visible. Here are some guidelines to follow:

Don’t take your picture at an angle

Hold the camera in portrait or landscape orientation directly above your licence.

Capture all the details

Make sure you get the full card in the frame – don’t cut any details out of the picture.

Avoid low light and fuzzy images

Make sure you take the photo in a well-lit room. Don’t use flash and make sure everything is in focus.

Passport

Step 1: Let’s check a few things

To use your passport as ID, you’ll need to check a few things first:

  • It needs to be current and signed
  • You can provide an image which clearly shows your photograph, name, date of birth, signature, passport number, expiry date, and country of issue

Important: Passports issued outside the European Union will need to be supported by a copy of your VISA or other authority to remain in the UK.

Capture all the details

Make sure you get the full card in the frame – don’t cut any details out of the picture.

Make sure you take the photo in a well-lit room. Don’t use flash and make sure everything is in focus.

Proof of address

Bank Statement

Step 1: Let’s check a few things

To use your statements as a valid form of ID, they’ll need to be:

  • Issued within the last 3 months
  • Show your name and address

Important: We can’t accept statements that you’ve printed off yourself or store card statements. If you’re providing an annual mortgage statement, then it must have been issued within the last 12 months.

Make sure you get the full letter in the frame – don’t cut any details out of the picture.

Bills

Step 1: Let’s check a few things

To use your bills as ID, you’ll need to check a few things first:

  • Suitable bills are Gas, Electricity, Water, Landline services or a Local Authority Tax bill or payment book for the current year
  • The bill was issued in the last 3 months
  • Your name and address is clearly shown on the bill

Important: We cannot accept mobile phone or internet service bills. If you’re submitting a Local Authority Tax bill or payment book, we cannot accept documents with amendments, reminder letters or non-payment notifications.

Make sure you get the full bill in the frame – don’t cut any details out of the picture.

Benefit Letter

Step 1: Let’s check a few things

To use your benefits letter as ID, you’ll need to check a few things first:

  • Your letter needs to show current entitlement to State or Local Authority funded benefit such as Benefits Agency, Universal Credit, or Housing Benefits. Or show current entitlement to State Pension, issues by the Pension Service
  • The letter must have been issued in the last 3 months
  • Your name and address is clearly shown on the letter
  • The letter needs to refer to benefits/pensions currently being paid

Important: We cannot accept letters about one off payments such as winter fuel allowance.

Make sure you get the full letter in the frame – don’t cut any details out of the picture.

Upload your documents

You should now have a suitable photo or scan of your ID and proof of address. Select ‘Continue’ to upload and send the documents securely.

Once you’ve uploaded your documents, it will take around two working days to process and then we’ll give you a call.

If you don’t have any of the listed documents, we may be able to accept other forms of ID and proof of address in person at one of our branches. Please visit your local branch where our staff will be happy to help you.
